Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

CaterBids.uk is a UK online marketplace for buying and selling commercial catering equipment. For data protection purposes, the controller of your personal data is Colt Price, a sole trader, trading as CaterBids.uk (Greyfriars House, Birmingham, B37 5HY; [email protected]). We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office where required. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as one is not legally required.

2. How to contact us about privacy

For privacy questions, data requests, or data protection complaints, contact us at [email protected] using the subject line “Data Protection Request” or “Data Protection Complaint.”

3. Data protection complaints process

Under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2026, you have the right to lodge a complaint directly with us if you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data. To complain: email [email protected] with your full name, the email linked to your account, a description of your concern, and your desired resolution. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, investigate without undue delay, keep you informed, and provide a substantive response. If you remain dissatisfied, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk.

4. What personal data we collect

• –Account Data: name, email, hashed password, phone number, login method, account settings.
• –Seller and Listing Data: listing titles, descriptions, photos, pricing, location details.
• –Buyer and Enquiry Data: communication history, offers, and contact information shared between users.
• –Transaction Data: billing information and payment status (handled via Stripe; we do not store full payment card numbers).
• –Delivery Data: collection and delivery postcodes, and, where a seller offers pallet delivery, the collection address, contact name and phone number they give us.
• –Technical Data: IP address, browser type, device information, and site usage logs.

Pallet delivery.CaterBids doesn't deliver, book or charge for delivery. When you buy an item offered with Pallet delivery (with Interparcel), we show you, and only you, the seller's collection address, contact name and phone number once you have paid, so you can book the collection with Interparcel yourself. Sellers who offer pallet delivery are told this when they choose it. To show live prices, our server sends Interparcel the two postcodes and the item's weight and size, never names, addresses or contact details. When you book on Interparcel's site, what you give them is covered by Interparcel's own privacy policy.

5. Lawful bases for processing

• –Contract Performance: to provide marketplace services, facilitate communications, manage payments, and give a buyer the collection details they need to arrange delivery of an item they have bought.
• –Legal Obligation: to maintain tax/accounting records and handle data rights requests.
• –Legitimate Interests: to prevent fraud, ensure site security, and improve our services.
• –Consent: for non-essential cookies, and for marketing emails to you (see Marketing emails below).

Marketing emails

• –We only email you offers and news about CaterBids if you tick "Email me CaterBids offers and news" when you sign up, or turn on "Offers and news from CaterBids" in Settings, Notifications. The sign-up box starts unticked.
• –We record when you turn marketing emails on or off, and the exact words you agreed to.
• –Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn them off in Settings at any time. That doesn't affect emails about your account, listings, messages and orders, which you need to use CaterBids.
• –We may also email businesses that have told us they're interested in selling on CaterBids about our offers for dealers, as a legitimate interest. Each of these emails has an unsubscribe link too.

6. International transfers

We store data primarily in the UK and Germany (via our hosting providers). Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, to keep your data protected.

7. Your data protection rights

You have the right to:

• –Access a copy of your personal data.
• –Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• –Erasure of your data in certain circumstances.
• –Restriction of or objection to certain processing.
• –Portability of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• –Withdraw Consent at any time for marketing or cookies.

8. Affiliate links

Some links on CaterBids are affiliate links: for example, "Get a quote from AnyVan" on a listing goes to AnyVan through Awin, an affiliate network. If you book after following one, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. The link tells Awin which listing you came from, but nothing about you. Once you are on the partner's site, Awin and the partner may use cookies to record that you came from CaterBids, under their own privacy policies. We count clicks on these links per listing, without recording who clicked.

9. Cookies

We use cookies to ensure our website functions correctly. Essential cookies are necessary for site operation. Non-essential cookies, such as those for analytics, are subject to your consent. Crazy Egg, one of the analytics tools covered by that consent, records anonymised clicks and scrolling to help us improve the site; it automatically masks anything you type into a form before it reaches us. 10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy periodically. Significant changes will be communicated via email or an account notice.
